Parents and Friends

The Parents and Friends (P&F) at SMCS is a community forum designed to create opportunities for parents, friends, staff and Board members to meet and hear about school events, ask questions and pray for the school.

The Chair of the P & F is the only executive position. It is a voluntary position and is appointed by the Principal each year. The Chair must be a committed Christian. Minutes are recorded of each meeting and tabled at a subsequent Board meeting.

One meeting is held each term with notice given in the school newsletter.

The agenda for each meeting includes reports by the Principal, Fundraising Team and Property Manager, as well as a talk by an invited guest, usually a staff member. Any ideas that may benefit the school are noted in the minutes and taken to the Board as a Board recommendation.

All parents, friends, staff and Board members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Please refer to the P & F Policy for further details.

Fundraising Team

The Fundraising Team is distinct from the P & F and consists of hard-working parents and friends of the school who commit to meeting together to organize fund-raising events for the benefit of the school. These events may include running canteens at athletics carnivals, selling hot chocolates in winter, organizing school dances, dinners, street stalls or BBQs. There is usually a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.

The Fundraising Team liaises directly with the Principal and decides with him/her how the funds should be spent. The Principal has oversight to ensure that events organized and funds spent honour God and benefit the school.

Please refer to Fundraising Team Policy for further details.

Property Manager

SMCS is a ministry of Cooma Baptist Church and shares its site with the church. To ensure that all ministries are working together well and using the site effectively, Cooma Baptist Church appoints an All-Inclusive Ministries Site (AIMS) Manager each year. This is  a voluntary position. The Property Manager works closely with the Principal to investigate and manage projects that will benefit the school and ensures that such projects are in keeping with the overall site plan now and into the future. These projects may be funded by the SMCS Building Fund if they meet the Fund criteria (tax-deductible fund) or the school budget. The Principal works closely with the Property Manager to ensure that school projects are prioritized according to need and W,H & S requirements and that project recommendations go to the Board for approval.
